ROMANS 8

We will begin this lesson in Romans 3:15 "Their feet [are] swift
to shed blood:"

This is speaking of evil men, of course we know that some of the
Jewish leaders of the church wanted all the Christians killed. They
even thought they were doing God a favor to kill the Christians.

Romans 3:16 "Destruction and misery [are] in their ways: " Romans
3:17 "And the way of peace have they not known:" Romans 3:18 "There is
no fear of God before their eyes."

This is describing people without understanding. They are without
the love of God within them. Their desire is to destroy and make
others miserable. This really is like so many gangs in our country
today. They have no desire to build, just to tear down and destroy
what someone else has built. They like to make others miserable
thinking with their perverted mind that seeing someone more miserable
than themselves will bring them happiness. They are not peace makers.
How could they fear what they do not know? They do not know God.

Romans 3:19 "Now we know that what things soever the law saith,
it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be
stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God."

Just the fact the Jews had the law did not make them not guilty
of sin. In fact, if anything, it made them more guilty, because they
had the law and did not keep it. All have sinned. All are guilty of
sin.

Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no
flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of
sin."

The law just made it even more apparent that all have sinned and
needed a Saviour. We will read in chapter 5 of Romans that Jesus died
for the ungodly. We cannot be good enough to be saved. Jesus Christ is
the only person that ever lived without sin.

Romans 3:21 "But now. the righteousness of God without the law is
manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;"

The righteousness that was manifested was the righteousness of
Christ. The law spoke of the promised Messiah. He was promised as
early as the third chapter of Genesis. Genesis 3:15 "And I will put
enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed;
it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." The
prophets spoke of the coming Saviour of the world, as well. The entire
Bible is actually focused on this Righteous One {Jesus Christ, our
Saviour and Lord}

Romans 3:22 "Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of
Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no
difference:"

Our righteousness is but filthy rags in ourselves. Our
righteousness that is acceptable to God is the righteousness of Jesus
Christ that we put on when we accept Jesus˙as our savior and Lord.

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of
God;"

This is not just the heathen, but the Jew, as well. No one can
live completely free of sin. Our justification in Jesus is (just as if
we had never sinned). We have sinned, but we are not guilty, because
we have been washed in the blood of the Lamb (Jesus Christ). I John
2:2 "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only,
but also for [the sins of] the whole world." We also read in
Revelation 7:9 "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which
no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and
tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with
white robes, and palms in their hands; " You see, these people are
those followers of Jesus who have been washed in His blood and made
white as snow. Revelation 7:13 "And one of the elders answered, saying
unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence
came they?" Revelation 7:14 "And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest.
And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation,
and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the
Lamb." We see the question of who these are in white robes answered
and it leaves no doubt who they are.

Romans 3:24 "Being justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"

We see a further explanation in Acts 13:39 "And by him all that
believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be
justified by the law of Moses." You see the only thing that makes us
in right standing with God is receiving the free gift (grace) of
Christ Jesus which redeems us.

Romans 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation
through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"

II Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who
knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
The word propitiation means atoning victim or also the lid of the Ark.
Jesus was our atoning victim. He took our sin on His body on the cross
and our sin died on that cross. Hebrews 9:22 "And almost all things
are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no
remission." You see, Jesus shed His blood to remit our sin.

Romans 3:26 "To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness:
that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in
Jesus."

The work was all done by Jesus. We cannot justify ourselves. We
are justified, because we have taken on justification through His
blood.

Romans 3:27 "Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what
law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith."

Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:" Ephesians 2:9 "Not of
works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath
before ordained that we should walk in them."

Romans 3:28 "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by
faith without the deeds of the law."

Keeping the ordinances of the law will not do away with sin and
will not save anyone. Without faith it is impossible to please God.
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen." To find out what faith can do for you
and did do for many, read all of Hebrews chapter 11.

Romans 3:29 "[Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also
of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:"

God was the Creator of all mankind. Mankind both Jew and Gentile
was made in the image of God. We are His workmanship. All He created
was for the benefit of mankind. He prepared the world for man. God is
God of all. We are all part of God's family. There is one God and
Father of us all. Ephesians 4:6 "One God and Father of all, who [is]
above all, and through all, and in you all."

Romans 3:30 "Seeing [it is] one God, which shall justify the
circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith."

You see, it is faith (belief in Him) which saves us, nothing more
and nothing less. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave
his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life."

Romans 3:31 "Do we then make void the law through faith? God
forbid: yea, we establish the law."

The law is not done away with by Jesus, but fulfilled in Him. The
law is good. The law declares the need to be righteous. Jesus makes it
possible to be righteous in Him. The law showed us our great need for
Jesus as our Saviour.
